Mohammed makes Africa Forum annual

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has ordered the organisation of the Africa Global Business Forum as an annual event in Dubai, as from next year 2014.

The decision stems from Sheikh Mohammed's belief in the importance of this forum, the level of participants and attendance as well as the role it plays as a platform for decision makers and business leaders for exchanging ideas, expertise and viewpoints on the best ways to launch joint investments in African in general and in the 19 member states of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa).

The decision was announced as Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid attended an interactive session on the meeting opening today of the 2-day high profile forum in presence of Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone Authority, ministers and business leaders from the UAE and Africa.

The two-day Africa Global Business Forum 2013 is being held at Madinat Jumeirah under the patronage of  Sheikh Mohammed.

Speeches were delivered at the event by Amelia Kyambadde, Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives of the Republic of Uganda and Chairperson of the Comesa Council of Ministers and other African senior officials.

Kyambadde said: "We came to Dubai to learn from its leader and to benefit from its pioneering experience in investment in a diversity of sectors, namely infrastructure, airports and seaports, real estate, finance, tourism, security and others."

Comesa has all the raw materials and the elements needed for development and growth, but we need a strong will, farsightedness and a prudent vision. We have to learn all this from Dubai. Today we have this historic opportunity to tap this experience which is outstanding in the region and the rest of the world, she remarked.

"Thank you Your Highness. We greet you for your miraculous achievements. African can learn from your strong will, powerful decisions and farsightedness," she added.

As the interactive session closed, Sheikh Mohammed greeted the participants and wished them success in their efforts to come up with common visions in service of their peoples and countries.

He noted that Dubai seeks to make people happy and provide them with dignified life for all its nationals and all members of the community.

The Africa Global Business Forum 2013 Dubai-Comesa: Bridging the Continent to the World brought together more than 2,500 decision-makers and business leaders, including 30 government ministers from the UAE and across Africa to discuss current challenges and business opportunities in finance, agribusiness, logistics, and trade across the economic blocs of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa), the East African Community (EAC), the South African Development Community (SADC), the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), the Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas), Economic Community of Central African States (Eccas), and Intergovernmental Authority Development (Igad).

Mohammed receives Africa Forum participants  

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid received Amama Mbabazi, Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda, Nuruddin Burhani, Vice-President of the Union of the Comoros, Jabulile Mashwama, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade of Swaziland, Sindiso Ngwenya, Secretary General of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa) and Heba Salama, Director of the Comesa Regional Investment Agency (RIA), on the sidelines of the Africa Global Business Forum 2013 which started yesterday in Dubai.

At the meeting which took place at Madinat Jumeirah in presence of Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and other UAE officials, Sheikh Mohammed expressed his wishes of success for their forum and their efforts to realise the aspirations of their peoples.

He emphasised that the UAE welcomes all forms of economic, tourism and investment cooperation with the member states of Comesa and the rest of Africa for the benefit of the people of the UAE and the peoples of African continent.

Sheikh Mohammed noted that the experience and expertise which Dubai can be used to serve and help these countries in modernisation plans for all sectors, in particular education, infrastructure, ports, telecommunications and transport.

The guests expressed pleasure at participating in the Africa Global Business Forum 2013 and described Dubai as a the pearl of the region and the world and an oasis for growth, development and unique leadership.

Mohammed bin Rashid visits Careers UAE expo  

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum yesterday visited the 7th edition of Career UAE Exhibition in its second day at the World Trade Centre.

Sheikh Mohammed toured the venue of the 3-day event which brought together more than 150 government department and private organisations from the UAE to showcase job opportunities on the offer for the UAE youth and graduates.

During his tour, Sheikh Mohammed viewed the plans of a number of government departments including Dubai Municipality and Dubai Women Establishment as he stopped at their stands.

He was briefed by on activities of the Establishment which is led by Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Wife of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs. He hailed its efforts which led to emiratise about 80 per cent of its jobs.

He also visited the stand of the Community Development Authority.

Sheikh Mohammed hailed the organisation of the is a high-calibre event which sees increasing turnout of talented UAE national job seekers. He stressed that such shows build mutual confidence between the youth and government departments.

The exhibition enables talented UAE nationals in all fields to meet directly with recruiters and hiring managers from top employers. Careers Show was designed to expose job seekers to various training and career opportunities.
