Sheikh Mohammed chairs Cabinet meeting

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, today chaired the Cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace, in the presence of Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum attended on Sunday a ceremony marking the graduation of the first batch of federal government officials from training courses on government policies, legal affairs and government communication.

Over 125 government officials successfully completed the courses which were conducted by a number of national and international universities including Insead business school, Zayed University and Sharjah University, as part of agreements with the UAE federal cabinet.

In the specialised courses, 30 participants received training on the basics of government policies, 55 on the principles of promulgating government legislations and more than 40 on government communication, planning government media campaigns.

Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs attended the graduation ceremony alongside His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid today.

In June 2013, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid attended the signing of three strategic agreements, between the cabinet and the three universities, which were aimed at developing the capabilities and skills of federal government staff.

Mohammed to open Global Islamic Economic Summit tomorrow

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, will open the Global Islamic Economic Summit (GIES) tomorrow (Monday) at Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai, in presence of more than 3,000 business leaders, decision makers and Islamic Economy experts.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed will also attend the first day of the 2-day summit in support for efforts being made to make Dubai the capital of Islamic economy.

The Global Islamic Economy Summit 2013 will be the first forum for Islamic Finance sectors and the Halal industries - including food, travel and lifestyle - to engage in meaningful discussions, tackle the most important challenges, and chart paths for the future of the Islamic Economy.

GIES attendees will also have the opportunity to hear the latest updates and trends within the global Islamic economy and access high-level speakers.

Business leaders who are inspiring the future of the Islamic economy will be recognised with an Islamic Economy Award, at the Opening Ceremony of the Summit.

Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gargawi, Minister for Cabinet Affairs, Chairman of the Executive Office of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, and Chairman of Higher Committee for the Development of the Islamic Economy Sector, said the organisation of the summit, held under the patronage of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and on directives from Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is aimed at providing a platform to bring together specialised prominent experts and decision makers, as well as an ideal opportunity to discuss the opportunities for the development of Islamic economy.

"With all its sectors and tools, Islamic economy represents one of the vital elements of our diversified national economy which has promising quality opportunities," added Minister Al Gergawi.

According to organisers of the forthcoming summit, the Islamic economies of the world represent more than US$8 trillion in GDP, a 1.6 billion population growing at twice the rate of the global population.

The key objectives for the Global Islamic Economy Summit 2013 are:

1-To lead a meaningful dialogue that leads to actionable next steps between Islamic Financing and the Halal sectors (food, travel, hospitality, logistics, pharmaceutical and others), Business sectors, governments and policy makers.

2-To facilitate discussions on capital raising preferences, opportunities and challenges from Islamic markets

3-To showcase and promote Islamic investment opportunities and challenges in emerging Islamic Finance centers

4-To provide information and insights that lead to a better understanding of the global Muslim consumer base and address key challenges for targeting them

5-To identify and address key challenges affecting the growth of each of the Islamic economy sectors, from standardization to capacity development

6- To act as the innovation platform for the Islamic economy

The Global Islamic Economic Summit will focus on six main pillars of the Islamic Economy:

- Islamic Finance and Insurance: Islamic banking, Islamic asset management, takaful, retakaful, sukuk & capital markets and Waqf endowments

- Halal Food: Agriculture, ingredients & manufacturing; retail, logistics, research & product development and food services

- Halal Lifestyle: Cosmetics; personal care’ pharmaceuticals, fashion, entertainment & recreation, art & design and media & new media

- Halal Travel: Hospitality, tourism, meetings incentives conferences & exhibitions (MICE), healthcare and Hajj & Ummrah

- SME Development: Technology & innovation, VC Financing, incubation and training.
