Supermarkets on Ramadan price alert

MoE meets retail outlets to discuss price control

Officials from Ministry of Economy and Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADED) met today with representatives of retail outlets to discuss about Ramadan promotions ahead of the holy month. The meet also focused on the best mechanisms that could help in price control.

Director of Trade protection at the Ministry of Economy Dr Hashem Al Nuaimi said the ministry is conducting a series of coordinating meetings with local authorities across the emirates to ensure sound arrangements and delivery of consumer commodities at affordable prices.

He warned retailers against seizing the glorious occasion of the fasting month to tamper with prices, emphasising that the ministry would impose penalties on price manipulators as per consumer protection law.

Representatives from Carrefour, Lulu, Abu Dhabi Co-operative Society, Spinneys and Fatima Supermarket were among the retailers who met with the government officials to review their Ramadan basket plans.
