The biggest-ever airshow in Dubai off to a roaring start

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Sunday inaugurated the Dubai International Airshow 2011 at the Dubai Airport Expo Centre.

Also present were Gen. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone Authority, Crown Princes of the Emirates and His Majesty the King Juan Carlos of Spain.

Running until Thursday at the Dubai Airport Expo, the show now in its 22nd year, is firmly established as a key event on the international aerospace calendar consistently offering key buyers and decision makers unrivaled access to the Middle East aerospace market in a highly focused environment.

Dubai Airshow 2009 drew 52,978 trade visitors from around the world - with a particularly high turnout from the United Arab Emirates and the wider Middle East, this year's show is the biggest yet, with nearly 55,000 trade visitors expected to attend during the week and up to 30,000 visitors expected on the first day alone.

The opening ceremony was attended by Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Ruler`s Representative in the Eastern Region, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Aviation Authority and Chairman of Emirates Group, Sheikh Majed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in addition to a number of sheikhs, ministers and senior officials.
