Hashish smuggling bid foiled in Al Ain

Customs authorities in the eastern oasis town of Al-Ain foiled an attempt to smuggle an unspecified quantity of hashish into the UAE through a border point from another Gulf country, press reports said on Wednesday.

Customs men checking incoming cars suspected a pick-up driven by another Gulf man who tried to enter the UAE through Al-Ain on Monday night, the semi official Arabic language daily Alittihad said.

A search of the pick up resulted in the discovery of plastic wraps containing hashis placed in various parts of the vehicle, it said.

“We have referred this case to the concerned security authorities for further investigation and to take the necessary measures,” the paper said, quoting Saeed Al Muhairi, head of Al-Ain customs department.
