Thrill seekers across the world will have one more place to visit in the UAE as Ras Al Khaimah will soon be unveiling a protected climbing route (via ferrata) on Jabal Jais, the highest mountain in the country.

“We have decided as a tourism authority to adopt three sites on the mountain. The first site will open by end of April and will be via ferrata with a zip line included,” said Haitham Mattar, CEO, Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority, told Emirates 24|7.

“But we will have another zip line which will be 2.6 kilometres, making it the longest in the world,” he added.

Currently, the longest zip line is “Zip 2000” at Sun City, South Africa, which has an average speed of 120 kilometres per hour over its two-kilometre stretch.

Second development on Jabal Jais will be a five-star camp.

“You have them in deserts… not in mountains and so this will be the first in the region. We are talking to a regional operator,” Mattar said.

The third site will be a viewing deck, with a picnic and F&B area, overlooking the port and the sea.  Details on the height were not given.

Jabal Al Jais is 1,910-metres high with temperatures dropping to as low as -3 degrees Celsius at the top of the mountain in winter.
