Investigation starts into cause of Address fire

The Dubai Civil Defence team has started an investigation into the cause of the fire at The Address Downtown Dubai hotel.

The General Directorate of Civil Defence in Dubai said investigations to determine the causes and circumstances of the fire, have started.

The results about the causes of the incident will be published in a timely manner as soon as available with the preliminary investigation is complete.

Earlier today, the Civil Defence team was is in the process of cooling down The Address Downtown Dubai hotel that caught fire last night.

The smoke from the bulding was not from a new fire but due to the cooling down process. Fire-fighting crew are on the scene monitoring the building and ensuring safety.

Assistant Director-General for Rescue and Fire at the General Directorate of Civil Defence in Dubai, Brigadier Ahmed Al Sayegh, said that the smoke rising from The Address Downtown Dubai hotel is due to cooling process.

The fire brigade put the fire out completely in the early hours of the morning.

Hotel Statement

Meanwhile, The Address hotel in a statement said: "The fire in the hotel has been contained. We would like to express our gratitude to the authorities for their immediate and professional support. An investigation is ongoing and details will be provided once they are ascertained.

“All our guests and employees were safely evacuated. Guests have been provided with alternate accommodation in various hotels in Dubai. We are sincerely thankful to these hotels for their support and cooperation.

“Our top priority is the well-being of our guests and colleagues. We are working around-the-clock to ensure that."

The fire broke out yesterday evening, at the Address Hotel, and the fire spread rapidly, due to strong winds, from the 20th floor to the external interface.

The fire in The Address Downtown Hotel Dubai last night was put out in record time - thanks to concerted efforts by Dubai authorities, especally the Dubai Civil Defence team.

They managed to control the fire well in time for the celebratory fireworks to go on as planned at Burj Khalifa.

The Dubai Government Media Office said: Dubai's successful New Year celebration is testimony to its steadfast commitment to its major projects and initiatives.

Dedicated Helpline

Meanwhile, Dubai authorities have set up a special hotline number for those who were evacuated from the hotel.

The Dubai Government Media Office said through its Twitter account: #dubai_guests who have been evacuated from the Address Downtown Hotel, do not hesitate to contact 0097156 683 5129 for any assistance.

Earlier, the authorities were immediately on-site to handle the incident swiftly and safely. The Government of Dubai Media Office had tweeted saying: "Control over 90% of the fire in the hotel within half an hour."

Alternative Accommodation

Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing said it will provide guests evacuated from Downtown Address hotel with alternative hotel accommodation.

Dubai Holding also offered alternative accommodation to guests evacuated from the hotel.

Director-General of Civil Defence in Dubai, Major-General Rashid Al Matrooshi confirmed to Arabic daily Al Bayan that the fire "broke out only in the external interface and the majority of the fire did not make it to the inside."

Dubai Media Office (DMO) earlier confirmed that the New Year celebrations in Dubai will continue as scheduled. They did it in spectacular fashion.

DGMO also informed that 14 minor injuries, one moderate and one heart attack case were reported due to over-crowding and smoke at the fire site. All have been administered prompt medical assistance. No children were injured.

Civil Defense officials reached the Address Downtown Hotel immediately after the fire was reported. They swung into action to douze the fire and competent authorities evacuated the hotel.

Speaking to Emirates24|7, Civil Defense spokesperson confirmed that the fire broke out at The Address Downtown Dubai hotel. He said, "Our team Is working on it. There are no injuries and casualties so far."

‎In a tweet on its official Twitter account, Dubai Media Office stated: "A fire has been reported in the Address Downtown hotel. Authorities are currently on-site to address the incident swiftly and safely."

"The fire, which broke out in The Address Downtown started on the 20th floor, outside the tower.

"Internal fire extinguishers are preventing spread of fire inside the hotel."

"Currently there are four squads of firefighters on site to deal with the fire and ensure the safety of everyone."

Residents were asked to avoid the area and allow emergency vehicles through.

The blaze was first reported around 9.30pm. No cause of fire has been reported.

The 5-star hotel comprises 63 storeys of rooms and apartments, 7 lounges and restaurants, a spa and tiered pool.
