A total of 11 shops were gutted in the early morning fire at an industrial area in Sharjah this morning.

The fire started at about 4am at the Al Ahli tire shop located near the Tabliq Masjid at Indistrial Area Number 3 and soon spread to nearby shops.

Mahesh Poulose who owns the Al Itihad spare parts told Emirates 24|7 that when he left the place at around 2.45pm the fire was still not fully out. “The Civil Defence personnel have been working to put out the blaze since morning,” he said.

“The intensity of the fire increased due to the flammable material present in the stores nearby. One of the stores that were burnt included Rana Diesel,” he said.

According to one another store keeper who spoke on condition of anonymity at least Dh50 million worth of goods could have been destroyed in the incident.

“The tyre shop alone had goods worth several millions,” he said and added that two or three workers were sleeping in one of the stores when the fire started.

“the fire started outside the stores and people had enough time to vacate the place. Nobody has been injured,” he said.

“They have closed off roads in Industrial Area 10 near Gico signal.”

Issac also mentioned that the proximity of the blaze is an area where a number of car maintenance shops are located.
