Husband fined Dh1,000 for swearing at wife

The UAE’s top court overturned a previous court sentence and fined a husband Dh1,000 after he was found guilty of swearing at his wife.

A court had earlier ordered the unnamed husband to pay the fine but the verdict was abolished by a court of appeals, which found him not guilty of abusing his wife.

The wife then appealed with the Federal Supreme Court (FSC), which overturned the appeals court sentenced and ordered the man to pay Dh1,000 fine.

After hearing witnesses, the court found the husband guilty of swearing at his wife in a public place in a way that “hurt her honour and dignity.”
