Several UAE families were staying at the London hotel when three Emirati women were attacked with a hammer, it has emerged.

The victims were woken from their sleep in their room on the seventh floor of Cumberland Hotel in central London and attacked with a hammer, the London police have said.

Speaking exclusively to Emirates 24|7 from London, another Emirati woman, who was staying at the same hotel where the attack took place, says: “I am very worried and am planning to leave this hotel as soon as I can.”

“I was terrified when I heard about the attack,” Shamsa [not her real name] told Emirates 24|7 over the phone from London.

The Cumberland hotel is a favourite among Emiratis visiting London.

“I was staying just one floor above with my family. We were on the 8th Floor and the attack took place on the 7th Floor.

“Towards the early morning, I heard strange noises in the hotel. I was worried and hurriedly got dressed to go and see what was happening.

“When I went downstairs to the lobby, I saw most of the guests who stayed at the hotel rushing to get out.

“Policemen were all over the place. They were questioning everyone who works at the hotel to find out any evidence about the attackers,” says Shamsa.

“When I asked the receptionist to tell me what happed, she first hesitated, but then she told me that three women were attacked and had been taken to the hospital.

“I felt terrified. For the safety of my family, I wanted to leave the hotel immediately. But the hotel staff convinced me to stay and moved us to the 4th Floor,” said Shamsa.

She said the hotel has almost emptied as the guests are leaving.

“I am still very worried and am planning to leave as soon as I can,” Shamsa said.
