Jet Airways emergency: Smoke in cabin

Update: Jet Airways has confirmed five passengers are receiving medical care after its Mangalore-bound flight made an emergency landing in Bangalore Airport earlier today.

The airline stated the remaining 60 passengers have been shifted to the airport’s lounge and “are being cared for.”

Jet Airways has further stated passengers will be accommodated in the next available flight to Mangalore, while the aircraft is currently under inspection by the airline’s engineering team.

Flight 9W 2839 landed at 10.20am India time in Bangalore Airport after smoke was detected in the cabin.

In its complete statement, the airline said: “Five guests were taken to the medical room for first aid. Other guests have been shifted to the airport lounge and are being cared for.

“All checked-in and cabin baggage has been handed over to the guests, who will be accommodated on the next Jet Airways flight to Mangalore.”

The airline continued: “The ATR aircraft has been shifted to the parking bay for the further inspection by Jet Airways engineering team. The airline has informed DGCA about the incident and will extend full co-operation in this regard.”

A Jet Airways flight bound for Mangalore turned back to Bangalore Airport for an emergency landing after smoke was detected in the cabin.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning aboard flight 9W 2839, which was scheduled to depart at 9.45am India time.

However, shortly after takeoff, the airline reported smoke in the cabin and turned the plane back around towards its origin airport.

The airline confirmed the incident, further stating all passengers and crew members on board were safe.

In a complete statement, the airline said: “Jet Airways flight 9W 2839 from Bangalore to Mangalore returned to Bangalore airport soon after departure due to smoke detected in the cabin.

“Precautionary evacuation of guests and crew was carried out immediately after landing.”

The airline further added: “All 65 guests and four crew are safe.”

Firefighting personnel were reportedly called on to the runway, with the area closed to carry out emergency operation.
