Non Resident Indians (NRIs) from the South Indian state of Kerala have a new option to consider as concerns the care of their parents.

With Keralites constituting a major expat workforce from India, across the world, old and sick parents often lead a lonely and isolated life.

An active retirement village is now being developed in Kerala, offering a better life for Keralites wanting their parents taken care of in their senior years.

“We have conceived the Active Retirement Community (ARC) in Kerala where the demand for such communities is growing, as in other parts of the world.

“We are offering a retirement village facility in Vazhakkulam, Ernakulam, Kerala,” said Babu Joseph, Project Consultant for Blessed Homes.

“Retirement communities are popular in the and many aged parents live alone in big palatial homes, with nobody to take care of them. They face a security risk.

“Many crimes have been reported from NRI homes.

“The facility will offer both safety and independence for aged people.

The retirement village will come up on a 3.5 acre plot in South Vazhakkulam, near Aluway and Nedumbassery International Airport in Ernakulam.

There will be 145 apartments with common facilities as well as old age friendly designs avoiding sharp edges, slippery tiles, railings and wheelchair access to various facilities.

There will be separate kitchen for vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals, common building for indoor games, library and recreational facilities.

The first phase of the project will be completed by March 2016.
