Lebanon’s Hariri construction and contracting company (Harco) has launched a project to build 'Luluat Al Amarah' (pearl of Amarah) in the southeastern Iraqi Maysan province following the signing of the contract, an Iraqi news agency reported on Thursday.

Shafaq said the company, which was awarded the deal on an investment basis in late 2014, has kicked off excavation work in Amarah, Maysan’s administrative capital, to construct the 80-million-dollar project.

"The company has started executive measures to execute this important project," the agency quoted the province’s governor Ali Dawi as saying after visiting the site.

It said the project involves the construction of a five-star 16-storey hotel comprising 192 rooms, a 400-shop mall, a 25-level building for 400 offices, a multi-storey car par, a cinema house, chalets and other facilities.

Officials said last year the project would be executed on a 50-year investment basis and would have an area of 11 dunums (27,500 square metres).
