Man attempts to kill friend over Dh500 loan

An Arab man tried to murder his long-time friend in Abu Dhabi by stabbing him in the neck and face after he refused to pay him Dh500 he lent him years ago.

A criminal court was told the defendant had phoned his friend and asked him to come to his house to get liquor he had bought for him as he had used to do.

When he went to the defendant’s house after midnight, his friend said there was no liquor and that he asked him to come to give him his money back.
After an argument, the victim jumped out of his car and asked his friend to get out, prompting the defendant to punch him.

He then stabbed him in the face and the neck but the victim managed to push his friend down and flee.

“He then phoned the hospital and the police. In court the defendant denied he used a knife to stab his friend, saying he only hit him with the car key, but a medical examination showed the defendant used a sharp object, not a key, to stab his friend in a bid to kill him,” the Arabic language daily Al Khaleej said.

It said the defendant told court he was under the influence of alcohol and denied trying to kill his friend. The paper did not elaborate on court hearings.
