An Emirati father and his two little sons were killed while six other family members were injured when their car was hit by a speeding vehicle in the eastern oasis town of Al-Ain.

The accident took place on the main road near Bawadi Mall on Monday morning when the family car was rammed by another vehicle which swerved off the road before returning to lane at high speed.

The father and two of his sons, aged four and 10 years, were killed in the crash while six other family members suffered from medium to serious injuries, according to the semi official daily Alittihad.

“We are still investigating the accident but preliminary results showed that the other car swerved off and on the road after its driver lost control of his vehicle,” said colonel Hamad Al Baloushi, director of external areas traffic at the Abu Dhabi traffic police.

“This was obviously because of excessive speed and failure of the driver to leave enough space with the other car.”

Alittihad said the family car was badly damaged while the roof, doors and windows of the other vehicle were smashed. “This showed that there was a strong impact as a result of the accident,” it said.

It quoted Baloushi as urging drivers to use children seats for their kids inside the car to ensure their safety. “Those two children were hurled out of the car due to the strong impact of the accident.”
