A Saudi teenager is suffering from severe obesity because of health problems that have nearly doubled his weight to 350 kg in just a few months.

Fahd Al Shammari has just been moved to hospital by an army of medical and civil defence personnel in the northern Saudi town of Hafr Al Batin after suffering from breathing difficulty and fluid congestion in the body.

Sabq newspaper quoted his father as saying Fahd needs urgent treatment to survive and that he fears his son could have the same fate of Major Al Dousari, who died of overweight in the Gulf Kingdom last month.

“Doctors said my son’s case is serious and that he needs urgent treatment. I appeal to health authorities to move him to a specialised hospital,” the father said.

He did not specify Fahd’s age but said he had gained around 180kg over the past few months.
