Minister's son in nightclub fist-fight with Scottish couple

Colombo – Sri Lankan minister Mervin Silva’s son Malaka has been accused of assaulting a couple from Scotland.
 
The incident took place at Rhythm and Blues Night Club in Colombo.

According to Colombo nightclub sources Malaka came into the nightclub at 1am on October 31 with seven security officers.

Belinda Mcancy, a 24-year old Scotswoman was dancing at the time and Malaka is accused to going to dance with her in an offensive manner.

It is alleged that she kneed him in his abdomen and he hit her after that. Belinda’s lover, a Scottish national, an engineer James Francis Caserly, 43, was several metres away.

He is employed in a construction company in Kottawa. They were celebrating his birthday at the club. Malaka and his security staff are accused of springing on James brutally assaulting him.

The British High Commission informed the Colombo Crime Division that two of their citizens had been assaulted in a night club in Colombo.

The entire brawl has been recorded on the club’s CCTV system. Belinda Mcancy has said that she can identify the culprits who attacked her.

Malaka has not been granted bail by courts hearing the case.

UK woman accuses Lankan of sexual abuse on flight

A British woman has complained that a Lankan man sexually abused her aboard a flight, the ‘Colombo Gazette’ has reported. The man was arrested at Katunayake airport.

According to police spokesman Ajith Rohana, the foreigner alleged that the incident happened seven hours before the plane landed. The 26-year-old British woman boarded the flight from Heathrow.
SSP Rohana said that the 47-year-old suspect is a Sri Lankan-born British citizen and was due to be produced before a court.
