Abu Dhabi Police arrested a young Indonesian housemaid for strangling her newborn and dumping the body in a waste bin in Al Mirfa Hospital’s toilet.

A social worker told ‘Emirates24|7’ that the young woman who went into labour was taken to the hospital by her sponsor assuming she was suffering from stomach pain. She was admitted to the emergency department. But when the physician there asked her to have an MRI scan done, she rushed to the toilet, delivered a baby girl, killed her and dumped the infant’s body in the waste bin.

“She allegedly cut the baby’s umbilical cord by herself, cleaned the blood and strangled the baby girl to death,” the source added.

“Desperate to hide her crime, she hid the infant’s face with tissue papers before placing the baby in the waste bin in the toilet. A little later, when the cleaner discovered the body as he was cleaning the bin. But the baby was dead by then,” the source added.

The cleaner looked into the waste because he felt the bag was unsually heavy. And to his shock he discovered a baby girl with her face covered in paper.

He alerted hospital authorities who in turn called police.

The maid was arrested and given medical treatment at the hospital, the source said and added, she probably wanted to avoid going to jail and thus resorted to the extreme step.

The housemaid will be referred to the public prosecution and will be charged with murder as well as for illegitimate pregnancy.

Mirfa Hospital is, in the Western Region, on the way to Ruwaiz.

There have been several cases in the past when housemaids have dumped their illegitimate kids. In a heart-wrenching incident a few months ago, an Asian housemaid was arrested after she threw her newborn baby through the waste disposal chute from the 9th floor of the building.
