An 8-year-old boy has died in the southern Philippine province of Zamboanga del Sur after his mother beat him for not owning up to his mistake of stealing one peso (Dh0.09) from her pocket.
The mother is now imprisoned at the municipal police station of Dumalinao. A resident of the town’s Barangay Baga, she is facing further investigation and charges of killing her son.
Medical-exam results showed that Vince Remasog Dingal died of severe beating he received from his mother, who had failed to manage her anger when she lost the money from the pocket of her dress hanging on the wall.
Doctors at the Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center said the boy sustained wounds, contusions, and concussions all over his head and body as a result of beating using a piece of hardwood, the tabloid Pilipino Mirror reported in its January 17 issue.
Police said they are further investigating the matter to find out whether there were other reasons as to why the mother beat her son to death, or if another person was involved.
