The Ethiopian housemaid accused of murdering her sponsor’s wife and daughter in Ras Al Khaimaih would go through a psychiatric test as requested by her lawyer.

The accused would be transferred to the Obaidullah Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah, where doctors would try to establish her mental state.

The hearing into the 23-year-old’s case would go ahead only after the medical examinations are over the Ras Al Khaimah Criminal Court of First Instance ordered.

The Ethiopian has reportedly confessed to murdering the 35-year-old Moroccan woman and her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, while she also faces of arson and theft.

The police found the woman and her daughter murdered in their apartment which was set on fire in the Nakheel area of Ras Al Khaimah.

Lt Col Salem Sultan Al Darmaki, Chief of the RAK Criminal Investigation Department, said that the maid allegedly stabbed the woman 70 times using a knife, and dumped the body in the bedroom of the apartment. The toddler was also in the same room. The apartment was then set on fire, Al Darmaki said.

The police and Civil Defence personnel reached the place after being informed about the fire.

The team broke into the apartment and found the bodies. The mother's body had only minor burns but bore severe stab wounds. The child had no injuries, but died of suffocation while sleeping, said Lt Col Al Darmaki.
