Medical packages with discounts on medical services in Dubai are to be launched on October 22 and 23.

The packages, which are dubbed as medical tourism packages, are available to residents as well as tourists with different benefits for both parties.

“The packages will cater to both residents and tourists. For tourists the package will include hotel stay and flight tickets.
“For residents, it will offer discounted rates for certain medical services.

The packages are comprehensive and extremely convenient,” said Layla Al Marzouqi, Acting- Director of DHA Health Regulation Department.

The packages will cover seven areas of treatment including dermatology, dental procedures,   preventive health check-ups, plastic surgery, orthopedics and ophthalmology.

While some of these areas are covered by some insurance policies, other treatments require out-of-the-pocket payment by the patient, says Al Marzouqi.

“Some insurance companies cover executive health packages, but not all policies include these services. Medical treatments such as laser hair removal, plastic surgery or wellness programmes are usually not covered by insurance.

“Executive packages for men and women will comprise of specialist consultation, lab tests and other diagnostic tests,” Marzouqi explains.

“For instance, the women’s health package will include consultation with a gynecologist, several investigations including but not limited to blood tests and breast cancer screening and mammogram,” she adds.

There will also be a weight-loss package that includes consultation with a dietician and diet plans based on the person’s medical history.

The packages will be launched for residents during the 1st Health Regulations Conference taking place in Dubai on October 22 and 23 of October at the Conrad Hotel.

“The packages will be offered at a discount ranging from 25-40 percent during the conference, which can be attended for free,” she says.

For tourists, the medical packages will be provided by tourism operators overseas, and they form part of a different scheme.

Hospitals and healthcare facilities that wish to provide services to medical tourists will be required to provide all-inclusive medical tourism packages and acquire membership from the Medical Tourism Club from September 1, 2014, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) said in a statement earlier.

Prices of the respective packages will be revealed on this website soon.
