Two jobless brothers along with three others, claiming to be CID official, allegedly attacked a man and stole his Dh7,000 from his wallet, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

On January 12, at around 12,30am, Bangladeshi investor, AA,40, was walking through a narrow lane when two men stopped him claiming to be CID.

"They asked me to present my ID card. But as I suspected them, I asked them to present their military card and prove their claim. One of the two men presented a card that carried a logo similar to that of police... I pulled my wallet which contained Dh8,000 and as I was opening my wallet, all of a sudden they attacked me and tried to snatch it. While I was resisting them and wrestling with them, a Toyota Prado came close and two more men joined the attackers," said the victim.

The wallet fell on the ground and the amount thrown away. Two of the men continued beating the victim up while the other two picked the money and they then escaped.

Another pedestrian witnessed the attack and noted down the car's plate number.

The victim checked his wallet and found out that only Dh1,000 was left in his wallet.

Police arrested three of the attackers: KS, TA, and AB and the victim recognized them when shown to him via identification parade.

The three were referred to the court and were sentenced to three years in jail each.

Later police arrested the other two attackers who were brothers RA, 24 and KA, 27, and the victim recognized them too.
