3 Iranian brothers caught in Philippines...

MANILA: Three Iranian brothers, who were detained for robbery by the police last January, have been arrested again and are facing deportation over expired visas, media reports today said.

Personnel of the Bureau of Immigration, who identified the brothers as Amir, Mohammad and Reza Rahmati, took them to the BI detention facility in Bicutan, Taguig, a suburb of Metro Manila, following their arrest on May 20.

The arrest of the Rahmatis followed the summary-deportation order issued by BI’s board of commissioners that, in turn, led to BI Commissioner Ricardo David Jr issuing warrants for their arrest.

“None of them bothered to [apply for an extension of their visas] after their stay expired, in blatant violation of our immigration laws,” Maria Antonette Mangroban, BI acting intelligence chief and spokesperson, said, as quoted by Inquirer.net.

On January 11, the brothers were arrested and detained by the police in Metro Manila’s Pasig City based on a complaint for robbery filed against them by the alleged victim, Seyedreza Mousavi.

Mousavi had claimed that the three brothers stopped him while he was driving his car along Ortigas Avenue, in Pasig City on January 10, held a knife to his neck and took his money worth 280,000 pesos (Dh24,469.87).

But the Rahmatis were released after their case was referred to the inquest prosecutor, prompting the BI intelligence division to become suspicious.

Mangrobang then assigned a team of operatives to track and investigate the Iranians, who have been found out to be bearing expired visas.

The Rahmatis would be deported should no case be filed against them in connection with the earlier complaint levelled against them by Mousavi.
