Depressed wife's carnal rampage: Kills husband, stabs baby son, wounds 3 other kids

A mother, allegedly suffering from depression after childbirth, has killed her husband and severed his penis, stabbed to death her one-year-old son and seriously wounded her three other children in the central Philippine province of Negros Occidental.
 
Arlene Galan, 33, hit her 50-year-old husband Johnny with an iron bar until he fell unconscious before cutting off his sex organ when she went berserk at 6.30am on Saturday June 8, inside their home in Barangay Bacuyangan, Hinobaan town, some 199 km south of the provincial capital Bacolod City.
 
Radio reports said Galan then turned to her three young children, who were sleeping side by side, and stabbed her one-year-old twins, Jay Mar and Jay Mark, and Johnny Jr, who was born four months ago, using a pair of scissors.
 
She also attacked 11-year-old Jevon John, her eldest son who just came back from a neighbourhood store to buy milk on his father’s request, by hitting his head thrice with an iron bar. But he managed to escape and asked for help from an uncle, who reported the gruesome incident to the police.
 
Carla Gomez of the ‘Philippine Daily Inquirer’ reported from Bacolod City that the victims’ family seemed more interested in sending Galan, who has been detained at a police station in Hinobaan, to a mental facility in Dumaguete City, capital of the neighbouring province Negros Oriental, instead of filing charges against her.
 
Quoting Police Officer 3 Eddie Napolis, Gomez said the family wanted to prevent Galan from hurting others, as she has reportedly been suffering from postpartum psychosis after giving birth to Johnny Jr.
 
Napolis said his team brought Jay Mar and his father to the Eleuterio Decena District Hospital in Hinobaan, where they died during treatment. He added that Jevon John, Johnny Jr and Jay Mark survived with multiple stab wounds and were being treated in hospital.
 
The police had recovered the scissors and iron bar used by Galan to attack her family, and released information about the incident on Sunday June 9.
