Miss USA Olivia Culpo beat Miss Philippines Janine Tugonon to bag the title of Miss Universe 2012. But the first runner-up Janine went back more popular than the Miss Universe herself.
Twitter exploded with comments from users saying that Tugonon, who was a crowd favorite, should have won.
Amid all this support that she has garnered online there is some negative comments about her boyfriend Jaypee Santos.
The boyfriend of Miss Universe 2012 first runner-up Janine Tugonon, Jaypee Santos, said he never felt insecure that his girlfriend is a beauty queen.
In an interview with ANC’s “Headstart” on Monday, Santos said he is confident because he knows how much Tugonon loves him.
“Never [akong na-insecure]. Back up ko si God eh. Paniniwala ko kasi, siya as a good Christian, alam ko na hindi niya gagawin yung mga bagay na ikasisira ng relasyon namin and I know na mahal na mahal niya ako,” he said.
After Tugonon’s near-win in the recently concluded Miss Universe pageant, several negative reactions have been posted about her now-publicized relationship with Santos.
Addressing the "negativity" surrounding her relationship, Tugonon gave credit to Santos for encouraging her to "finish this journey."
"There was a time really that I wanted to give up, I really wanted to say, 'Ayoko na.' He was the one who really helped me, and said, 'Remember why you're here, and remember why you're there. Finish what you have started,'" Tugonon said.
"So I am here, and we should be thankful din na he's there for me, because he really helped me a lot, simula pagpapapayat, hanggang dulo. He's really a great supporter," she added.
Meanwhile, Santos told ANC that he never expected to find himself in the limelight.
But for what it’s worth, Santos said he will always be beside Tugonon whenever she needs him.
As for Tugonon, she believes Santos is God-given. She needs no Brad Pitt in her life.
“Mabait siya sobra and siya yung talagang kahit puyat na, susunduin ka pa rin niya, hahatid ka pa niya. Sobrang gentleman,” she said.
“Hindi ko naman kailangan ng Brad Pitt. I grew up in a broken family. Ayaw kong mangyari 'yun sa akin kasi alam ko ang magiging epekto nun sa anak ko. So kung mukha lang over 'yung pagiging faithful ng isang tao, doon na ako sa faithful. Gusto ko hanggang pagtanda, buo ang family ko,” she added.
