Nine men, two of them teachers, are now facing the wrath of the parents of 11 schoolchildren whom they allegedly molested in exchange for money in the central Philippine province of Leyte.

The parents are set to file charges of lasciviousness and corruption of minor against the nine suspects, who had paid the children 60 pesos (Dh5.42) after they groped and caressed the kids’ private parts in the city of Babatngon, according to police reports.

Results of an initial investigation sent to the national police headquarters in Manila’s Camp Crame revealed that the parents and the suspects had a face-to-face conversation at the Municipal Social Welfare and Development (MSWD) office in the presence of some police officers and government officials.

Two of the nine suspects have been identified only by their aliases—Lino and Boboy—who are allegedly elementary and high school teachers, respectively, in the city, another is an employee at the city’s National Statistics Office while two others are of below the legal age of 18, and the rest are their friends.

Most of Manila’s tabloids carry the story today, citing police reports as saying that a further investigation is underway as parents, MSWD officers, school officials, and other concerned citizens are preparing to bring the nine suspects to justice.
