Teenager gang-raped in Metro Manila suburb

Four men were caught raping a 16-year-old girl in the Metro Manila suburb of Caloocan City in the early hours of Saturday, a news report carried on Monday by the tabloid ‘Abante Tonite’ said.

Police have identified the suspects they arrested as Mario Lorence, 36; Atoy Guilas, 38; and a certain Yoyong, 32. The other suspect, known only as Dong, escaped and is now being hunted by the police.

The unnamed victim has been described as an out-of-school girl who, together with a friend, was walking home from another friend’s house when a group of men having a drinking spree at a street corner accosted them and forced them to drink whisky.

When the girls refused, the men grabbed them and dragged them into Guilas’ house, but the victim’s friend was able escape. She then ran to her friend’s house and told her mother, who in turn asked for help from authorities.

The victim’s mother and siblings arrived first at Guilas’ house where they witnessed the four men raping her. Village security officers, whom the mother had contacted, followed, and then a team of city policemen.

The Women’s and Children’s Concerned Protection Desk at the Caloocan Police Station is taking care of the victim and helping police on the case pending the filing of formal charges against the suspects.
