Electricity supply to parts of Al Khan in Sharjah was down from 10am till noon today but has been reinstated after two-hour outage.

Emirates 24|7 spoke to one occupant at a multinational company who said, more than 2,500 staff at its office in the area have been sweating it out.

According to another source, two residential buildings also experienced a blackout.

“Those who have laptops are working while all others are sitting idle for almost an hour now. We have sent our officer incharge to Sewa to find out about the disruption,” said one staffer of the multinational firm.

Sharjah residents had experienced severe blackouts during the summer months in 2009 and 2010.

Industrial areas suffered more outages compared to residential buildings during previous years.

Senior officials had last year promised that various measures from upgrading power infrastructure to identifying new sources of gas are being undertaken to resolve the power shortage.

Additionally Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority's power grid was also integrated into the federal system to ease the crisis.

However, it is not clear if the present blackout is a result of technical issue or power shortage.
