Saudi Arabia’s Islamic police arrested an Egyptian university professor after they caught him meeting a female student at a restaurant in town, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice seized the couple at a restaurant in the southern town of Abha, Sharq Arabic language daily said.

“They found a flower bouquet and a gold ring in the professor’s possession, who told them he was in love with her and wants to marry her because she is a good student,” the paper said.

It did not identify the couple but said the professor is supervising a thesis prepared by the student.
