12 boys, girls held for mixing at Saudi restaurant

Saudi Arabia’s religious police arrested six boys and six girls for smoking and mixing with each other at a restaurant, newspapers said on Monday.

Members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, the most feared law enforcement authority in the conservative Gulf kingdom, were on a routine patrol when they spotted the 12 high school students at the restaurant in the northeastern town of Hafr Al Batin.

“The 12 were arrested on charges of having illegal meeting and smoking together at a restaurant…they were also found that they have not been to school on that day and that the bus driver brought them to that place.”
