4-month-old body in grave remains intact

Residents of a small village in Yemen were shocked to find that the body of a young local woman who was buried nearly four months ago is still intact and her grave is sending perfume smell through the cemetery, a newspaper reported on Monday.

The body and other graves at the cemetery in Dhafar village in the western Yemeni province of Ibb were dug out by heavy rain that has hit the area recently, prompting residents to join hands to repair the graves and re-bury uncovered bodies.

“They were very surprised when they found that the body of that woman has not decomposed and that there was a strong smell of perfume in the grave,” the Kuwaiti Arabic language daily Al Rai said in a report from Ibb.

“Residents said they had smelt perfume while passing near the grave before but had not expected the body to be intact...they could not find an explanation for this.”

The paper, citing villagers, said the woman was in her 20s when she died while delivering at her home.
