African vice den busted in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia’s religious police arrested 17 African men and women on charges of indulging in prostitution during a raid on their houses in the Gulf Kingdom.

Members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice had watched the four suspected houses in the southern town of Khamis Mushait for nearly two weeks before raiding them with the help of other police units.

Al Sharq newspaper said police arrested eight women and nine African men during the raid, which also resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of contraceptive pills.

3-year-old chokes on sweet

A three-year-old Saudi boy died after a piece of sweet he was eating got stuck in his throat and blocked his breathing system.

After failing to pull the piece out, the boy’s parents rushed him to hospital in the western town of Medina but he died on arrival.

“Doctors said the boy of suffocation after his respiratory system was blocked by the piece of sweet that got stuck in his throat,” Sabq newspaper said, quoting Medina police spokesman Colonel Fahd bin Al Ghannam.
