A 21-year-old Saudi man suffering from AIDS believes he had got the disease because God wanted to punish him for indulging in sex and drugs.

The victim, identified only by his initials as M.A, said doctors discovered he was suffering from the killer acquired immunity deficiency syndrome when he donated blood for his relative who was injured in a road accident.

Speaking to the Saudi Arabic language daily Shams on Sunday, the man from Riyadh said he began his drug addition when he was 15 years old by having stimulants supplied by local dealers and friends at school.

A few years later, he started to take hashish and other strong narcotics before he became an addict and a dealer in the Saudi capital.

Besides drugs, MA also became an alcoholic and started to have illegal relationships with women, most of whom he knew online.

A month ago, M.A went to a local hospital to donate blood for his relative, who sustained serious injuries in a car accident.

“They used to call me the bad man and I mistook it for brave…I was distributing stimulants and other drugs at school and shopping malls,” he said.

“Nearly a month ago, my relative was admitted to hospital with serious wound sustained in a road accident…the hospital was looking for blood group –O, which is my group…so I went there and donated blood…

“But doctors could not save my relative and he died three days later…I was shocked and dejected by his death and decided to stop smoking, drugs, alcohol and all other bad things…it was a moment of contemplation…

“One day my phone rang and I answered it…it was the hospital, which told me to come quickly…..I went there and I was worried because it thought they found out about my addiction…but the truth was far worse…they took me to the blood bank director, who broke the news to me…I was suffering from AIDS.”

M.A said the official asked him if he had drugs or illegal sexual affairs and he replied that he had been indulged in all such things.

“He decided to give me another blood test…the second test confirmed I have AIDS…I am convinced that what has afflicted me is God’s punishment because of what I have done in my life….my advice to all young men is this:’don’t try bad things no matter how small they are because you will end up trying big things…it is like a snow ball rolling down and getting bigger every day until it becomes uncontrollable…I call upon all of you to take me an example.”
