Bird fetches $333 in auction

A Saudi farmer was surprised when he sold his cock for nearly $333, the highest price fetched by any of his birds since he started his career in the Gulf Kingdom, Alyoum Arabic language daily reported on Saturday.

Abdullah Al-Abdullah said he had not expected his bird to trigger a heated auction at a popular bazaar in the eastern province of Ihsaa.

“I have been in the birds’ trade for nearly eight years and this is the highest price I get for one bird,” he told the newspaper.

“I took that cock to the market on Thursday and it attracted the attention of some Gulf buyers who happened to be there…their bid to buy the cock turned into a heated auction which fetched me SR1,250 ($333).”
