A Saudi taxi driver stopped near a restaurant in the Gulf kingdom to change a SR50-note for his passenger. Once he entered the restaurant, the passenger jumped behind the wheel and shot away.

The driver said he did not suspect the passenger, in his 20s, on the grounds he sounded nice and looked ‘in a good shape’.

“He gave me SR50 and said he did not have change…I stopped near a restaurant and went in to change it…when I returned, there was no car,” the driver told ‘Sabq’ daily.

He said he had informed police, adding that the car is the only source of living for his family and it contained SR18,000 (Dh18,000) for his brother’s house rent.

“I also lost my income of around SR200 I made that day…I appeal for all to help find my Camry car,” he said.

The man was so intoxicated that he even threatened to throw them out of the car if they did not stop screaming, not noticing the two police cars racing after him.

"They later got him…the women were all fine and the man was arrested on charges of stealing a car, endangering lives, having alcohol and drink driving," Sabq daily said in a report from the Western Red Sea port of Jeddah.
