The window pane bearing an image said to resemble the Virgin Mary has been moved from a Malaysian hospital to a church after attracting crowds of devotees, the hospital owner said Tuesday.

For the past two weeks, hundreds of Catholics have gathered to pray at the Sime Darby Medical Centre just outside the capital Kuala Lumpur, describing the shape spotted on a seventh-floor window there as a miracle.

Pictures of the window have gone viral on Facebook, drawing worshippers from as far away as Singapore.

The throngs outside the hospital have said they could also see an adult Jesus Christ portrayed on a window two panes away from the purported image of the Virgin Mary.

Both windows were handed over on Tuesday to the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes in the port town of Klang west of the capital, according to the company that owns the hospital.

In a statement, conglomerate Sime Darby said: "The removal of the window panes was carried out by professionals with due care, safety and caution exercised throughout the process."

Church leaders have described the new venue as "more conducive for prayer and reflection".

The local Catholic Church will ask theologians and church authorities to examine the authenticity of the images.

There are around 1.2 million Catholics in majority-Muslim Malaysia.
