Couple in divorce over wife's BlackBerry

Saudi policeman beats up wife over her love for the handset

The wife of a Saudi police officer is seeking divorce after she was beaten up by her husband on the grounds she is more interested in Blackberry than him, the Saudi Alyaum Arabic language daily reported on Wednesday.

The unidentified police captain in the eastern port of Dammam used a whip to lash his wife and a sharp object to hit her on the head before she was transferred to hospital for treatment, the paper said.

“She then went to the police and filed a complaint…when her husband was summoned and asked whey he attacked her, he said he did so because she is more interested in her Blackberry handset than him,” the paper said.

The wife has also filed for divorce and is awaiting court procedures. Her husband reacted by expelling her from home and depriving her from seeing her children.

He should have just purchased a BB himself... added her on BBM and VOILA. They are a happy couple again because now they communicate :)

How about men glued to their mobiles constantly, ignoring their kids, wife and everything else in the world around? Etiquette over phone usage is getting very low level also... restaurants, hotels, elevators, movie theatres mean exposure to unwarranted personal talks, often loud rings and talks. This can only change by self awareness - one person at a time... woman or man alike. Respect each other, turn the phone off when with friends and family. Remember life before mobiles?

This guy is crazy. She probably preffered the BB because you hardly give her any attention and treat her badly. Come on men, treat women with respect and dignity.

Girls/women should be banned from phones and gadgets as they are addicted to more than anything in this world. The above is inevitable as constant hooking up on the phones sends wrong signals to others.

Well, its true, and I ain't surprised. If I get the same reaction from my husband, I'll be rather concerned. I would ask politely, see what's up. You have a husband, do him proud. Nowadays, situations like these make you think what the world is coming to. Oh well, may Allah make it easy for them. Ameen.

Good thing Saudi revoked the BlackBerry ban, else she'll have no husband and no BlackBerry!
