Crippled killer gets death sentence in Saudi

A Saudi court sentenced a paralyzed expatriate to death after he was convicted of killing another man by cutting off his ear during a fight eight years ago.

The unidentified defendant had told court that he used a knife to cut the victim’s ear off after he bit off part of his ear during the scuffle in the Western Red Sea port of Jeddah.

‘Okaz’ newspapers said relatives of the victim, who died of bleeding, rejected mediation attempts to pardon the killer, promoting the court to sentence the defendant to death. But it quoted his lawyer as saying he can appeal the verdict.
