A cup of Arabic coffee and a piece of date is all what an Emirati father has asked the grooms of his six daughters to pay as dowry.

According to the story, which has gone viral on social media, the Emirati father from Al Ain decided to take such a step to ease the burden on grooms and also to encourage other parents to do so.

He said that these days, the wedding costs in the country is too high, which is preventing many young Emirati men to postpone marriage. They delay their wedding until they can afford paying the high dowries and meeting the costs of wedding, he said and added that some men also prefer marrying non-Emirati women in order to escape the high wedding costs.

Many on social media praised the Emirati father for his decision, commenting that he is setting a good example.

“Parents must allow their daughters to marry men of good character and background, even if they are not wealthy. By choosing this way, this father has guaranteed that his daughters will live a good life with their husbands without the tension of being in debt and re-paying wedding expenditure,” said Mohammed, a UAE national from Al Ain.
