'Decisive Storm brings hope to Yemenis'

The 'Decisive Storm' military campaign launched by Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries against the Houthi militias have brought hope to the Yemenis and put the nation back on the road for a peaceful solution, a Saudi columnist has said.

Salman Al Dosari said he believes that the campaign, which was launched on March 26 and ended on April 21, was not an end in itself but a means to protect legitimacy and restore peace and stability to Yemen.

In an article published in the Saudi daily 'Sharqalawsat', he said that neither Saudi Arabia nor its allies wanted that war but that it was imposed on them.

“The offensive launched by Saudi Arabia and its allies was intended to prevent threats to the regional countries, restore the legitimate regime and bring peace and security to Yemen. Once its objectives were achieved, the campaign was halted,” he said.

“We believe that even after the end of that campaign, the allies will continue to monitor Yemen’s air space and territorial waters to allow the legitimate regime to return to power and function normally away from any internal or external threats

"The Houthis and their allies must now realise that it is the last chance for them to be part of a peaceful settlement. Otherwise, they will be excluded from that settlement and treated as an outlawed group. The ball is now in their court.”
