Defiant Saudi woman drives car in key city

A Saudi woman defied a long standing ban on female car driving in the conservative Gulf Kingdom and drove her vehicle in the streets of a key city, a newspaper reported on Sunday.

Manal Al Sharif was seen driving her car in the eastern town of Khobar in a film carried by Sharq daily, which said she is one of well-known Saudi activists calling for ending the ban on women’s driving.

“Manal drove her car through Khobar streets in defiance of the kingdom’s social traditions which prevent women from driving.”
