A Saudi civil defence diver who retrieved the body of a drowned 12-year-old boy in the Gulf Kingdom was shocked to see it was for his own son.

Civil defence divers in the southern town of Wadi Al Dawasir had been called by local residents to search for the boy who disappeared while in a water pit.

“One of the divers who plucked out the boy got a big shock as the body he has just carried was for his own son, but he dealt with the situation courageously and continued carrying the body to land,” Jazan news daily said.

Two Saudi brothers aged 11 and 12 years and their younger cousin drowned in a flooded valley in the Gulf Kingdom as they tried to rescue each other.

The two boys and the girl, 10, were playing in a nearby valley in the western town of Kharma when the elder brother slipped and fell into the water. As he struggled to come out, his younger brother jumped to save him but both drowned.

“Their cousin then went into the water to help them but she also drowned. Sivil defence divers later plucked the three bodies out of the water,” Altaif daily said.

Saudi Arabia, the second largest Arab country by area, has been hit by flash floods caused by heavy rain over the past week, during which at least 20 people have been killed.
