King Abdulla of Saudi Arabia told the Kingdom’s officials to keep their offices’ doors open for the people to serve them, saying this is in line with Islam.

“Do not put janitors at your office,” the King said in an address after launching university cities projects worth more than SR85 billion.

“Keep your doors open to the people because you and I are all servants to the people and to our country…above all, we are servants to our religion-- the religion of glory, faith and ethics.”

Quoted by the official Saudi press agency, the Monarch said cabinet ministers and other government officials in the world’s dominant oil power have a “responsibility” towards their people and nation.

“We have to keep serving our religion and our people…I ask you, my brothers, to shoulder this responsibility and perform your duty towards your religion, country and people…this is a sacred trust on the necks of all of us and I wish you success in this task.”

SR2m from Saudi king to child fire rescuers

King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia ordered the payment of SR2million (Dh1.95 million) to two men who risked their lives to rescue an 11-year-old Saudi boy after he was trapped in a blaze at his house.

Mohammed Omar Al Shamma, a Saudi, and Mustafa Ahmed Mohammed, a Chadian, were each paid SR1million for their “heroic act,” the London-based Saudi Arabic language daily Alsharqalawsat said.

Deputy Interior Minister Prince Mohammed bin Nayef bin Abdul Aziz handed the cheques to the two men at his office in Riyadh on Monday, it said, adding that the two dragged the boy out to safety after his flat in the Western Red Sea port of Jeddah was gutted by fire last month.
