When a drunk Kuwaiti driver was seized by police, he appeared puzzled not by their sudden swoop on him but about their work during a public holiday.

The man, in his 30s, had apparently thought police in the Gulf emirate also benefited from a nine-day holiday marking Eid Al Adha (Muslim feast of sacrifice), which starts on Tuesday.

“Why are you working during the holiday,” the man quietly told the police when they stopped his swaying car in Kuwaiti City and found he was drunk.

“Haven’t you been given a nine-day holiday like us,” the man said, according to the Arabic language daily Alanba, which quoted police sources on Monday.

Contrary to most other drunk people caught by the police, this man spoke quietly and coolly, was polite and did not resist his arrest, the paper said.
