A Saudi man set his own car on fire and a police probe showed that he was drunk when he torched his vehicle, a newspaper reported on Sunday.

Local residents in the southern province of Jazan managed to put out the fire before calling the civil defence and the police.

“Police investigating the accident found that the owner himself set his car ablaze. They found that he was not in a normal condition as he was drunk,” Sada daily said.

Lightning kills Saudi using mobile

Lightning killed a young Saudi man using his mobile phone in bad weather conditions in the Gulf Kingdom while his two friends were injured.

Newspapers said the three men, aged between 20 and 22 years, were on a picnic in a valley in the western Taif town when they were struck by lightning.

One of them died on the spot while the two others suffered from medium burns and were taken to a nearby hospital.

The report recalled that the civil defence has often warned the public against going to parks and other open areas or using their mobile phones in bad weather conditions.
