Erring ministers must be sacked: Prince Al Waleed

Saudi billionaire Prince Al Waleed bin Talal, a member of the royal family in the world’s largest oil exporter, says he believes cabinet ministers found to be guilty of corruption must be sacked, the local press reported on Wednesday.

The Prince, a nephew of King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, was reacting to recent comments by the head of the Gulf Kingdom’s anti-corruption body that he had reported some cabinet members to the Monarch for refusing to cooperate.

“Your Excellency, the chairman of the National Anti-Corruption Authority, Nazaha, you have done right by reporting the non-cooperating ministers to the Monarch, because in Saudi Arabia, the minister should not bear responsibility for wrong actions by resigning but by being sacked,” the Prince said in a brief comment on his Twitter page, according to the Arabic language daily ‘Sabq’.

In local press remarks last week, Nazaha chief Mohammed Al Shareef said he had presented the names of some ministers who refused to cooperate to King Abdullah.

He said the 90-year-old King had asked him to report to him any official who refuses to cooperate with its investigators seeking to curb corruption and other offences.

“The Monarch has told us to report personally to him any part that refuses to cooperate.

“We have reported to him the names of the departments and the ministers who are not cooperating,” Al Shareef said without identifying the ministers.
