Saudi doctors successfully removed a tumor that occupied a large part of the face and neck of a 45-day boy and was heavier than the baby himself.

The tumor had spread over the left side of the Bangladeshi boy’s neck to most of the face and affected his pharynx and larynx before it was removed by a specialised medical team in an operation at a hospital in the Western Saudi Rd Sea port of Jeddah.

“It was a successful surgery and the boy has been discharged from hospital in good condition,” said Dr Bashar Abu Touk, a paediatric surgeon.

The baby’s father, Abu Ibrahim, said he had almost given up hope his son would live after he could not afford the high costs of the operation.

“The tumor was heavier than my son himself and I tried many hospitals but the costs were far beyond my resources,” he said.

“I was then told to go to Zamzam charity organization for medical services. I went there and their response was instant. They funded the operation and saved my son.”
