A wealthy Qatari falconer paid KD209,000 (Dh2.7 million) to buy a rare falcon in Kuwait, one of the highest price paid for a bird of prey in the Gulf country.

Mohammed Mubarak Al Ali bought the falcon from a popular bird auction house in Kuwait after bidding the highest price, newspapers said.

They quoted the auction manager Hashim Al Saleeli as saying on his Twitter page :”Thanks to God the Almighty…the hawk has been sold for KD209,000 in an auction attended by many falcon fans.”

Falcon fetches Dh595,000 in Saudi

Two Saudi men who captured a rare falcon alive sold the bird for SR220,000 (Dh218,000). A few hours later, the buyer sold it for more than double that sum.

Ahmed Al Hamdan and Nasser Akram were on a hunting trip in the northern Saudi town of Al Jouf when they spotted the Persian falcon.

Given their experience in hunting birds of prey, they succeeded in catching the falcon alive and quickly sold it for SR220,000.

“A few hours later, the buyer, Rasoul Al Mutairi, sold the falcon for SR600,000 (Dh595,000) to a new buyer. Experts said this falcon could fetch even more,” the Saudi Arabic language daily Arar said.
