Grand Mosque adhan can be heard 7km away

The sound of adhan (call to prayer) from the Grand Mosque of Makkah can be heard as far as seven kilometres – thanks to the loudspeaker installed at the top of the 76-storey Makkh Royal Clock Tower Hotel.

The tower – whichi is 601 metres high and houses 858 suites – will also emit 16 light beams to a height of 10 kilometres and can be seen from a distance of 30 kilometres, according to an Arab News report.

The beams will be turned on during adhan (call to prayer) time so that people who have hearing difficulties can know the prayer times.

The Makkah clock project was constructed on top of tower number five of King Abdul Aziz Endowment project, which consists of seven towers.
