Helicopters combed the mountains in southwest Saudi Arabia for several hours on Wednesday as part of an ongoing search for a 90-year-old Saudi man who vanished on his way to mosque last month, local newspapers said Thursday.

The choppers flew above mountains and valleys in Abha near the border with Yemen and were to make more flights on Thursday to search for Jubran Al Qahtani who was on his way to mosque in his village when he disappeared nearly three weeks ago, the paper said.

His family has declared a SR100,000 ($26,500) reward for information that will lead to his whereabouts while members of his tribe have been roaming public places to distribute leaflets carrying his photo and other information.

“Helicopters combed the nearby mountains and valleys yesterday for nearly three and half hours but could not find a trace of the missing man,” Okaz daily said.

Qahtani is a resident of Numais village near the southwestern town of Abha, which is situated nearly 2,200 metres above sea level in the fertile mountains of the province of Asir close to Yemen.
